BullGuard VPN review: A good start but a long way to go (Latest version)

Join the likes BitDefender, Avira, Norton, McAfeeAnd much more, Bullguard is the latest anti-virus company to offer a VPN product. BullGuard VPN is a white letter version of NordVPN, one of the best VPN Services round. It allows BullGuard to use NordVPNAn excellent infrastructure instead of building its own. BullGuard VPN is a very new service that is still being developed, but seems to mark all the right security and privacy boxes. What does it have to offer and how does it perform? Let's find out in this BullGuard VPN review!

About this review: I use BullGuard VPN as my primary VPN service for 14 days on my laptop using Windows 10 and Android 9.0 Pie smartphone. At the time of publication, the Windows program version is 1.3.9.0 and the Android app version is 1.4.7.

Getting started

  • Email address required
  • Windows, Mac, iOS, Android
  • Credit card, Paypal, bank transfer
  • Choose regional payment methods

You need a valid email address create a new account with BullGuard and it will also serve as your username. You can also go directly to the BullGuard VPN payment page and set a password after you pay for the VPN. I recommend first setting up an account to take advantage of a 25% discount available for an "existing" client. As is often the case, if you pay full price for a VPN, you're doing something wrong, and BullGuard VPN is no exception.

You can pay with a credit card, via Paypal, or with a bank transfer. There are also a few different options tackled, depending on where you are. For example, you can pay with iDEAL in the Netherlands, with a check or money order in the US, automatic debit in Germany and more. However, no anonymous payment methods, ie cryptocurrency, are available.

BullGuard VPN has easy to install applications for Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. It should cover the needs of most people. However, many premium services support quite a few devices and platforms, from game consoles and smart TVs, to Wi-Fi routers and browser extensions. Support for your computer, smartphone and tablet should be more than enough for most. Anyone who is still looking will have to look elsewhere.

In this BullGuard VPN review, we'll be looking closer to the Windows and Android apps. You can download the Windows installer file from your account page and the Android app is on the Google Play store.

Ease of use

The Windows program

BullGuard has built its own VPN clientele, but it's not surprising that the Windows and Android apps will remind you of NordVPN. There are echoes of agreements everywhere, from the layout of the list countries, to the settings page. Nothing is exactly the same, but it will be well known to anyone who has previously used NordVPN, and it's going to be an ongoing theme if we go further in the review.

You can simply click or tap Quick Connect to automatically connect to the closest server to you. To connect to a server in a specific country, tap the country's name. The full list is available on the left side of the Windows application and with & # 39; a upload on Android.

You can find the settings page by dialing tables on the Windows application or by opening the hamburger menu on Android. The settings menu is also the same as what we have with NordVPN, with key options such as choosing the protocol type, which makes an App Kill Switch or Internet Kill Switch possible, and installing a custom DNS that available with BullGuard VPN. All these extra features are not available with the Android application.

BullGuard VPN features

  • 16 global locations
  • 6 simultaneous connections allowed
  • Torrenting allowed
  • Unblocks Netflix

bullguard vpn server and location map "width =" 840 "height =" 467

BullGuard VPN currently has servers in 16 locations across the globe, but mostly in North America and Europe. Singapore is the only Asian place and you will not find any servers in Africa or South America. I couldn't fix the exact number of servers. But in a conversation with BullGuard VPN's excellent customer service, I found that there are at least two servers in each location, with a large number in the US and the UK.

The number of sites and servers doesn't come close to any of the leading VPNs, including NordVPN, which offers an incredible 5,000 servers in 62 countries. However, given their partnership, it should not be long before BullGuard strengthens its own reach worldwide.

BullGuard offers everything we expected from a premium VPN. Up to six simultaneous connections are allowed, torrenting is not a problem, and what impressed me especially was Netflix access. Not every VPN can uncover Netflix, and the fact that BullGuard makes it possible from any of its sites is great.

Note: With regard to torrenting, we do not condone or encourage illegal activities. Please be aware of your country's copyright laws.

Security and privacy

  • Based in the UK.
  • Complete zero logging policy
  • OpenVPN TCP / UDP
  • 256-bit AES encryption

BullGuard is based in the UK, which will bring red flags to anyone with privacy issues, as the country is part of an intelligence agreement that stores a large amount of data on internet users. But BullGuard's complete zero logging policy should help alleviate any problems.

BullGuard guarantees a strict no-log policy for BullGuard VPN Services, which means that your activities with BullGuard VPN services are provided by an automated technical process, not monitored, logged, logged, saved or passed on any third party. We do not store connection times, session information, used bandwidth, traffic logs, IP addresses or other data.

You get the highest level of encryption and the safest VPN protocol with BullGuard. Other premium features are available, such as an internet death switch that blocks all networking activities when the VPN connection drops. There is also an App Kill Switch that lets you stop network activity for specific applications such as a browser.

I used several IP and DNS leak tests ipleak.net, IP X, and dnsleak.com and found no problems.

In terms of security and privacy, BullGuard VPN covers more than the basics. However, if we compare it to NordVPN, there is much more that could be possible. The latter offers additional features such as specialist anti-DDoS and P2P servers, dual VPN (data goes through two places), and UI over VPN (Tor).

I would also like to see BullGuard reject his cube safety pedigree by adding an anti-malware feature to the VPN. It's a useful extra feature that only offers a few VPNs. Given the obvious expertise the company has in this area, it can be a striking feature of BullGuard VPN.

speed Tests

Original speed

I was prepared to come to the attention of BullGuard VPN's speed test results, taking into account the low number of servers and locations, and the fact that there are no places near me (in India).

However, I had nothing to worry about, as the VPN performed admirably. This is definitely not the fastest VPN Of course I tested, with a drop of about 60 percent across the board. However, what was pleasantly surprising was that the speed remained very consistent regardless of the server location I was linked to.

The consistent speed, regardless of the location I am linked to, was a pleasant surprise.

prices

  • 1 year plan – $ 79.08 ($ 6.59 / month)
  • 2-year plan – $ 95.19 ($ 3.97 / month)
  • 3-year plan – $ 107.10 ($ 2.98 / month)
  • No monthly plans

Many bugs, a lack of features and other dental problems from a new VPN service can be excused if the price is right. BullGuard, however, bumps into the gate in this regard. It's definitely not the most expensive VPN I've tested. There are many of them cheap VPN out there, although it sometimes offers more. This includes the one I mostly compared BullGuard VPN to – NordVPN. You get many extras with NordVPN at a price point that is similar or slightly cheaper.

However, there is a simple solution here that I mentioned earlier. If you first sign up for an account, you can take advantage of & # 39; a special existing 25 percent discount. This brings the price to a very reasonable $ 63.74 ($ 5.32 per month) for the annual plan. There are some catches. The "discounted" 2 year and 3 year plans, in this case, are more expensive than the normal price.

BullGuard also does not offer monthly or other short-term subscription plans. However, if you want to take it, you can take advantage of a 30-day money back guarantee that is not required to see if it is the right one.

BullGuard VPN

BullGuard is a good start to its VPN service, but there's still a long way to go. As a standalone VPN, it gets more than the job. The security and privacy features are excellent, the speed is good enough and also very consistent, and the programs are very simple and easy to use. The list of locations and available servers is short, but it will only improve over time.

But, as unfair as it may be, BullGuard VPN will be compared to NordVPN, especially as prices are very similar. In a head-to-head comparison, NordVPN takes it with a significant margin, and BullGuard will need to do more to better compete against other premium VPNs. The good news is that it's a very short time and there's plenty of room to grow. I can't wait to see what BullGuard VPN is bringing to the table this year.
