According to Twitter tipster Max J, Sony works on a phone with six rear cameras and a dual selfie camera connector. This means that we have eight cameras on this so-called upcoming device altogether.
The device is still in development, which means that specifications and further things are still unknown.

Max J has a pretty solid record when it comes to leaks, but we still take it with a pinch of salt. After all, Sony's phones aren't always in the forefront when it comes to photography, anything too late for the triple camera party with the Xperia 1 and still doesn't offer an advanced night mode. So a jump to six back cameras looks like a very big step to take.
You have to wonder what Sony is going to do with all of these sensors if it actually works on a six-camera camera. Our first suggestion is that the company uses the Nokia 9 Pureview approach, with a mix of RGB and monochrome cameras for better depth effects and low-light results.
Lending weight to this guess is confirmation earlier this year light – The company behind the Nokia 9's camera technology – actually works with Sony. Light can create multi-camera reference designs using Sony image sensors as part of the transaction, but these designs can also be used by other manufacturers. A Sony six-camera camera can serve as a technological demo of many other OEMs on board.
Another possibility is that Sony offers a very flexible camera setup, including telephoto cameras, ultra-wide shooters, and more to deliver a camera for every situation. It also seems likely that a 3D ToF sensor will be added to this setup to ensure better depth and AR effects, as seen on Samsung and Huawei's latest flagship.
You don't have to wait too long for a Sony smartphone with a versatile camera setup, as the Xperia 1 does indeed offer normal / ultrawye / telephoto shooters. You can check the shopping list using the button below.
